One-In-A-Million Photo

(Got this in an email the other day)

When the lightning flashes, this is NOT what you want to see.

THIS IS A PICTURE THAT SOMEONE TOOK WHO WORKS ON AN OIL RIG.

HE WAS GOING TO TAKE A PICTURE OF THE LIGHTNING AND WAS UNAWARE OF THE TORNADO UNTIL THE LIGHTNING ILLUMINATED IT.

Taken April 3, 2008
Lariat # 2 Sandridge Energy South of Ft Stockton , TX

(Is this really a real photo? Or is it photoshopped? What do you think?)

So, here's the rest of the story . . .

After reading Abby's comment, I went to Snopes.com to read the article about this photograph for myself. You can, too. Here's the link:

Thanks, Abby!

(it's still a cool photo!)

I tend to lean toward it being photoshopped, but that's the cynic in me.

Either way, it is an uber-cool pic!

Yeah, I don't know if it's real either, but it looks cool anyway!

It used to be that photographic evidence was indisputable (sort of) and now I just never know and usually just think it must be photoshopped!

Either way, Awesome photo!

The oil rig is the only thing in the photo that has been photoshopped. The tornado and lightning photographed together are real. And the description is obviously not true.

Whenever I'm faced with an email forward or strange photograph I go to the Urban Legends Website (www.snopes.com) and undoubtedly they have the real story behind whatever it is and whether or not it's true. In this case, the truth is found on this page: http://www.snopes.com/photos/natural/sedalia.asp

I love Snopes. It has kept me from looking like an idiot MANY a time.

It is so sad that we have to question every awesome picture. It is fun to look at though.

I love snopes too. I always check it before I go and spread the fun. I can't believe how gullible we have become. But it is still a lot of fun to read the made up and the cropped pics.

What a beautiful picture even if it is photoshopped.

It is a cool picture! I agree with Jan. It's sad that we have to wonder everytime we see a great picture.

On the other hand, I HAVE used photoshop to my advantage more than once.

Awesome!!! I think it's cool that we have the technology to create works of art that look sooo real. So real or fake... it's pretty neat.
